Yorkie Pics – the ultimate gallery

I’ll start with a warning – This post includes Yorkie pics, and lots of them. Why do Yorkie pics require a warning I hear you ask? Well this is because Yorkies are unbelievably cute, and I think you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who’d argue with this. In fact, go and try to find someone now who doesn’t think Yorkies are cute. You can’t find anyone can you? Of course you can’t.

So without further a do here’s a collection of random Yorkie pics. They don’t have too much in common beyond the fact that they are all Yorkshire Terriers and all very cute. Enjoy…

I hope you enjoyed this collection of Yorkie pics. I’m going to keep posting such pictures relatively regularly because I like these sorts of posts and find these get the most traffic too. I guess I’m not the only one with a mildly disturbing obsession with pictures of adorable Yorkshire Terriers.

Yorkie Puppy development

Yorkie puppy development is a key concern for owners. Yorkie puppies, like all puppies develop very quickly. Time really does fly when it comes to puppy growth. One minute you’re looking a young pup mucking about and peeing on the rug. The next thing you know your pup is an adult dog leading a rich and fulfilling life making a contribution to society (maybe?). The following article looks at various aspects of Yorkie Puppy development.

A Yorkshire Terrier puppy has to be outgoing personality and an extremely good character. They are born black and over time they acquire the characteristic colour, steel blue and tan. It will take eight to ten months to develop.

Yorkie puppies are very lively and love to play and have fun. This in my opinion makes them one of the the most charming breeds of dog. Because of a Yorkie’s desire to play and need for attention if you are not home all day and can not take your dog with you, sadly a Yorkshire Terrier is probably not for you.

You’ll find Yorkie puppy development an extremely interesting and rewarding time. I can’t emphasis enough how charming their character is and how much joy they can bring to your life. But as mentioned they do need a dedicated owner, so if you are planning on getting a Yorkie puppy you need to go in with your eyes open. Good Luck!

How to train your Yorkie Puppy

Training a puppy is a time consuming task that needs commitment and patience. Training a Yorkie puppy is no different. Below very briefly explains one tips about how to train your Yorkie puppy. I hope this is useful – I’m planning to add to these tips over the coming weeks.

It is very important that your Yorkie puppy knows his or her name and come when called. This is not going to be achieved in just one day – the key word here is consistency. You should get your puppy into a routine and follow that schedule consistently. This covers loads of different elements of your Yorkie’s life – naps, exercise and hours of play.

How to avoid Yorkie car sickness

As is often the case with any pet there may be times when you have to take your Yorkie in the car. If so Yorkie car sickness may be an issue you need to consider.

If when your Yorkie is in the car the act differently, generally look unhappy or vomit there’s a good chance they may be suffering from Yorkie car sickness. As it can be for humans, car sickness can be extremely unpleasant for dogs, so understandably you’ll want to do all you mitigate against this and ensure your dog has a happy journey.

Below are a few top tips to help you combat Yorkie car sickness.

Tip 1 – Ask your vet for advice. Your first port of call should be your vet. They should be aware of all the products available that can help your Yorkie on car journies be they long or short.

Tip 2 – Try to introduce your Yorkie to car travel when they are puppies. If you are able to take your Yorkshire Terrier out in the car whilst they are puppies there is a chance they are more likely to get used to it. This will mean once they are older they are far less likely to suffer from Yorkie car sickness.

Tip 3 – Ginger. You can try feeding your Yorkie Ginger Biscuits or  natural ginger before the journey.

Tip 4 – Ensure your Yorkie is relaxed. A stress free Yorkie is far less likely to get ill whilst travelling.

Tip 5 – Drive sensibly. Don’t drive like a mad man/woman, hurtling round corners taking the racing line. Irrespective of whether you have a dog in the car this is foolish anyway. And if you do have a dog in the car this will almost certainly increase the chances of Yorkie car sickness. Drive sensibly and carefully so as to avoid causing your dog to be flung about your car.

If anyone has any other tips in combating car sickness for Yorkshire Terriers or dogs in general, please leave them in the comments below.

Yorkie rescued from brambles!

This story probably won’t make the front pages of many national newspapers but it’s a Yorkshire Terrier related headline none the less – Yorkie rescued from brambles!

Whilst the likes of CNN and the BBC have overlooked this story Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard have waded in with the coverage this story deserves. In a nutshell the hapless Yorkie got trapped in brambles, so the owner phoned the fire brigade who came and freed the Yorkshire Terrier from his bramble hell.

According to the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard “Six firefighters from Moreton-in-Marsh station were called to rescue the Yorkshire Terrier from near the Marsh service station on Stow Road at around 1.40pm.” It took about 20 minutes to free the dog, which to me, as a non-dog rescue expert, seems very reasonable.

World’s smallest dog is a Yorkie

There’s a new smallest dog in the world, and you’ll all be pleased to hear it’s a Yorkshire Terrier! Well a mini Yorkshire Terrier to be precise.

World's smallest dog - Yorkie

The winner of this great accolade is a dog called Lucy. She’s from New Jersey in America, and weighs in at a feather weight 2 1/2 pounds. According to the Huffington Post she snatched the title from Japanese Chihuahua called Momo, who has the very honerable job of a Police search and rescue dog.

But the new leader of the pack is no slouch when in comes to work. She doesn’t sit around basking in the glory of being the world’s smallest dog. No, not at all. Lucy the Yorkshire Terrier works as a therapy dog visiting hospital bringing joy and/or relaxation to the patients.

Good on Lucy, an extremely worthy holder of the Guinness World Record for being the smallest dog in the world. Congratulations Lucy!

Yorkshire Terrier haircuts – how to guide

When it comes to Yorkshire Terrier haircuts it’s really completely up to you. You can stick with a traditional Yorkie hair style or go off piste and let your creativity run wild.

A lot of people are worried about cutting their dogs hair themselves. If this is the case you can go to a professional dog groomer and talk through the hairstyle options in much the same way you would with your own hair dresser. If you know exactly what style you want, try to find a picture of a Yorkie with that style and take the picture with you to show the professional groomer (this will ensure there are no misunderstandings as to what you want)

If you don’t mind having a go yourself then firstly you’ll need to buy some good dog kit to make sure you’ve got the right tools for the job. You can either get these from your local pet shop or from the internet from places like this.

If you decide to the go it alone with regards to Yorkshire Terrier haircuts, one important point to remember is to make sure your Yorkshire Terrier is comfortable when performing the haircut. If he or she is comfortable they’ll move around less which will make your life easier and also make it easier to get better results.

Also don’t worry if you make mistakes. With Yorkshire Terrier haircuts (or any haircut for that matter) always remember that the hair will grow back and that your Yorkie is going to be far less worried about what they look like than humans.

When considering what Yorkshire Terrier haircut you want to go with for your dog you may want to consider the season. If it’s cold it may make sense to leave the hair a little longer so as to ensure your Yorkie remains warm in cold conditions. Conversely in the hotter months you could trim the hair a little shorter for a refreshing cool feel for your dog.

If you have any tips for Yorkshire Terrier haircuts please leave a comment below to share that advice.

Cutest Yorkies – Top 5 cutest countdown

We all know that that Yorkies are one of the cutest dog breeds in the world. So in celebration I’ve created a Cutest Yorkies top 5 countdown.

I have trawled the web for ages to find these pictures to ensure only the cutest of the cutest have made the list. Be warned though, these dogs are all so cute, you may struggle to avoid your heart melting. So without further delay let’s crack on with the cutest Yorkies countdown.

At number 5 it’s this little chap, with his bright eyes and mini Beckham hair cut circa 2002.

In at number 4 is this patient looking little puppy. I’m not sure what he’s waiting for. Perhaps a walk or a treat. There’s quite literally no way of knowing.

The number 3 spot for Cutest Yorkies is this Yorkie. Ahhhh, just look at his face. Really, look at his face! You just couldn’t say no to a face like that. A face like that could almost literally get away with murder.

We’re at the business end of the chart now and at number 2, very narrowly missing out on on the top spot is the dog. I love the way he looks so pleased with himself, perhaps due to the fact he look like he’s got himself a lovely new collar.

And the number 1 cutest yorkie goes to these 3 dogs. Possibly cheating slightly as they’ve taken advantage of sheer numbers whereas the other dogs in the chart have gone it alone, but if you have any complaints take it up with these 3.

I hope you enjoyed this countdown and have not been too overwhelmed by cuteness. If you’d like to suggest any other pictures to be added to the cutest Yorkies countdown, please add links to them in the comments below.

Yorkshire Terrier training, 5 top tips for successs

Here are 5 excellent tips for dog training in general that can also be used specifically for Yorkshire Terrier training. One thing to be aware of before you start is that any dog training requires perseverance in order to achieve success..

1. Get your Yorkie’s attention – Before starting the actual process of training your dog, you must first make sure you have his/her full attention. To do this talk to your yorkie and offered him/her a treat at the same time.

2. Practice a little every day – do not try rush training your Yorkshire Terrier. Take one command at a time and never give up on teaching a command until you are absolutely sure that your dog understands exactly what is required of him. Be patient, take one step at a time, and never try to push your training program along quickly.

3. Be patient when things go wrong – Even if your Yorkshire Terrier seems to be learning very slowly, or does not seem to be able to understand what they need to do, do not lose your patience or temper. Stay calm and move along at a pace that your dog can handle, even if you’d prefer to be moving along faster.

4. Be generous with your praise – always praise your Yorkshire Terrier when he succeeds in mastering a new command.

5. Find time to play with your dog – there is nothing that a dog (especially a young Yorkie) likes more to play with you, and playing is an excellent way to create a bond between you. The bond developed through play is a very useful aid for your dog training and future obedience regime.

Following these guidelines should ensure that your Yorkshire Terrier training is never too stressful or exhausting for any of you all your Yorkie. Good luck!
